Organizers of the National Ice Cream Competition in the United Kingdom, run by the Ice Cream Alliance (ICA) in partnership with the Craft Guild of Chefs, have announced a new category specifically for chefs.
“British chefs have been creating delicious ice creams for their customers for many years,” said Ice Cream Alliance CEO Zelica Carr (pictured above). “We thought it was time that this creativity was recognized and celebrated. This class is now open for entries and we look forward to tasting them at the judging at the 2023 Ice Cream and Artisan Foods Show in Harrogate from 7 to 9 February.”
The National Ice Cream Competition has been running for over 75 years. Entries are judged blind by experts, which for the Chefs Class will include celebrity chef Gennaro Contaldo and a representative of the Craft Guild of Chefs.
“The Craft Guild of Chefs is delighted to be partnering with the Ice Cream Alliance to launch this latest competition category,” said CEO Andrew Green. “We will be encouraging all our members to enter and believe the winners publicity prize will give that chefs reputation and the business they work in a significant boost.”
The competition is now open for dairy-based entries, which must be prepared by the chef using the equipment they have in their professional kitchen. Any flavor (both sweet and savory) can be entered to demonstrate skills and imagination, and additions as well as toppings are acceptable.
