Kontos Foods, Inc, a Patterson, New Jersey, USA-based manufacturer and distributor specializing in traditional Greek and Mediterranean foods, has introduced grilled Cocktail Flatbread for the holiday season.
The soft, flexible, two-inch pita disks are being positioned as ideal for creating festive appetizers and hors d’oeuvres, including hamburger sliders, bite-sized smoked salmon and avocado samplers, chicken salad with sliced cherry tomatoes and pizza samplers. They can also be used for cheese spreads, dips and bruschetta.
Production has been ramped up to meet demand from retailers including Winn Dixie, Kings, Winco, King Kullen and others, some of which have taken Kontos Cocktail Flatbreads as an “in-and-out” holiday item.
“These mini pita breads are prepared using the same hand-stretching techniques as our regular-sized flatbreads. Hand-stretching the dough introduces air pockets, which, when baked, create extra-fluffy bread that holds heat better when served warm,” said Steve Kontos, vice president and owner of Kontos Foods. “The grill marks create a panini café-style appearance that makes for unique and special appetizers and hors d’oeuvres that are easy to prepare and serve.”
Kontos Cocktail Flatbreads, which contain no trans-fat and are 100% vegetarian, are distributed frozen in 20-piece retail packs sold at supermarkets. Select Restaurant Depot outlets offer them with grill marks in 125-piece packs. High-volume foodservice establishments can purchase 648-piece bulk packs of mini flatbreads.
In addition to flatbreads, the company’s product line includes Eastern Mediterranean-style traditional pita, fillo dough, pastries, olives, gyro meats, Greek yogurts, Asian nan bread, Mexican-style pan plano, panini and other items.
