Pink’s Ice Cream LLC of Seattle, Washington, is recalling all products made in 2014, with the exception of Coconut Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert. According to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), they have possibly been contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, a species of bacteria that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.
Pink’s Ice Cream specializes in East Asian-style flavors that range from Thai tea and green tea to black sesame, durian, mango, red bean, spicy ginger and taro. Products subject to recall were distributed in pint-size paper cartons and one-gallon plastic containers through grocery stores and restaurants around the Puget Sound area, including Uwajimaya and Metropolitan Market in Washington.
The recall stems from contamination found at Snoqualmie Gourmet Ice Cream, Pink’s dairy supplier. A routine sampling revealed traces of Listeria in finished product and on surfaces at the plant. No illnesses related to consumption have been reported to date.
Meanwhile, all production surfaces and equipment have been sterilized and Pink’s and has begun sourcing dairy ingredients from an alternative source.
