Osamu Corporation of Gardena, California, is recalling frozen yellowfin tuna chunk meat (Lot #68568) sold to Rancho Dominquez, California-headquartered AFC Franchise Corp. Samples of the product, sourced from a single processing plant in Indonesia, were found to be contaminated with Salmonella by Minnesota Department of Health investigators.
AFC, the largest supplier of sushi to supermarkets and other retail outlets in the United States, has 3,600 sushi bar operations in North America and Australia. There have been two reports of illness to date associated with exposure to sushi it sold in Minnesota. The product, shipped to AFC from May 20-26, 2015, is being removed from the marketplace and destroyed.
Consumers concerned about whether the sushi they bought may contain the tuna designated for recall should check with the store where the purchase was made. That retailer will be able to determine if product subject to recall was used to prepare the sushi.
