Farm-raised shrimp will be in high profile during the March 6-8 Seafood Expo North America in Boston, Massachusetts, where six major aquaculture companies from Ecuador will exhibit at Booth 633: Edpacif, Expalsa, Langosmar Organic, Negocios Industriales Real NIRSA, Omarsa, Qirola Group and Sociedad Nacional de Galapagos SONGA.
“In 2015, we proudly launched the First Class Shrimp campaign to showcase the unique features about our shrimp and the strong values behind our business,” said José Antonio Camposano, executive president of Camara Nacional de Acuacultura. “When we say our shrimp is First Class, we assure our product is produced under the best aquaculture practices, being socially responsible and environmentally friendly, produced in compliance with international regulations and following the highest standards in the shrimp industry.”
Ecuador, home of the first organic-certified shrimp farm in the world, has a relatively long history in aquaculture. The first shrimp farm in the country dates back to 1967 and is still in operation. The South American nation is the third largest shrimp supplier to the United States, the first to the European Union and a significant exporter to Asia.
“A low-density production system (8 to 15 larvae per square meters) allows our shrimp to have more space and thus to grow with the less stress, resulting in a product with the best quality,” said Camposano. “These and many other characteristics guarantee that our product is the First Class Shrimp.”
