Robb MacKie, president and chief executive officer of the American Bakers Association (ABA), will be the keynote speaker at a luncheon on August 2 during the Global Cold Chain Alliance (GCCA) Assembly of Committees (AOC) gathering at the Fairmont Hotel in Washington, DC.
The head of the trade association representing the interests of the $102 billion wholesale baking industry in the United States will discuss how cold storage demand in the baked goods sector is poised for significant growth in the next few years. In addition to food safety advantages, the potential benefits of extending shelf life of bakery products without reduction in product quality, nutrition, and appearance offers opportunities for key players in the baking and cold chain industries to work together.
ABA President and CEO Robb MacKieKicking off on August 1, the AOC’s three-day schedule focuses on major regulations impacting the world’s food and cold chain networks. The symposium includes education sessions providing detailed content on topics ranging from Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) and other port issues, to Sanitary Transportation of Food, Global Food Trade outlook, GMO Labeling, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Refrigeration Regulations, and more subjects. Programming will provide an overall outlook on key US government regulations impacting the cold chain, and how they will relate to the world at large in the years to come.
Meetings on the second day are geared to provide members of GCCA working committees an opportunity to review tools and resources developed by the association. On the final day, members are invited to participate in government agency visits to discuss the importance of certain issues related to the global cold chain industry.
