Renton, Washington, USA-based Orca Bay Seafoods aims to expand with a new freezer-warehouse in Federal Way, a town situated between Seattle and Tacoma. According to an article published by the Federal Way Mirror on August 9, Chatham, New Jersey-headquartered Preferred Freezer Services will operate the facility.
Chill Build Seattle has filed an application with the local government that provides details for building a 68-foot-tall, 314,424-square-foot building on a 19-acre parcel of land that was formerly property of the Weyerhaeuser timber company. The facility would feature food processing space and an office, along with parking for 310 cars and 35 tractor trailers.
In business since 1985, Orca Bay Seafoods distributes a wide range of retail and foodservice fishery products that run the gamut from Alaska Pollock and Wild Sockeye Salmon with Tuscan Herb Sauce entrees to value-added Mahi Mahi, Flounder, Swordfish, Cod, Tilapia, Ahi Tuna and Scallops. Orca Bay brand club store offerings come in 10 oz. and 5 oz. retail packs. Annual sales are said to be approximately $150 million.
The company currently portions and packs all products at its headquartered facility in Renton, which has reportedly been put up for sale. The new complex in Federal Way will feature four times the space available at its present location.
“This is a positive development for our community, and we remain committed to working to bring jobs and new investments to Federal Way,” said Mayor Jim Ferrell. He added that as many as 275 jobs will be created by the freezer-warehouse operation.
