AquaChile has joined the McLean, Virginia, USA-headquartered National Fishery Institute’s (NFI) Salmon Council as its newest member. The aquaculture company produces Atlantic and Pacific salmon, sea trout and tilapia, providing products to more than 30 countries across five continents.
Founded in 1988, AquaChile has operations in Chile, Costa Rica and the United States. Its facilities hold a raft of certifications including BAP, IFS, HACCP and Global G.A.P, employing 5,000 workers system-wide.
“AquaChile oversees every step of production from egg to harvest with meticulous quality,” said General Manager Vicente De la Cruz. “In joining the Salmon Council, we turn our focus to the last step of the process, the marketing and sale of salmon.”
In its fourth year, the NFI Salmon Council’s membership has grown to include companies at all levels of the supply chain including associate members who provide services to the salmon industry.
Salmon Council Chairman Gianfranco Nattero views the council’s expansion as necessary to increasing consumption of the fish.
“Salmon is a global fishery,” said Nattero. “Producers in Chile, Canada and all other salmon producing countries, together with processors in the USA and fishermen from Alaska are equally responsible for promoting the versatility, healthy and nutritious qualities of salmon. The more perspectives we have informing the council’s work the more successfully we tell salmon’s story to consumers.”
The Salmon Council was established in January of 2013 for the promotion of salmon in the USA market. Its membership represents wild-caught, farmed and domestic, imported products, as well as providers of essential services to the salmon industry.
In addition to AquaChile, other full members are Agrosuper, Bluemar USA, Bumble Bee Seafoods, Icicle Seafoods, King & Prince Seafood Corporation, Marine Harvest USA, Morey’s Seafood International, Norwegian Seafood Council, Salmon Chile, Slade Gorton & Company, Trapananda Seafarms, and Trident Seafood Corporation.
Associate members include C.H. Robinson, Commodity Forwarders Inc., Integra Chile S.A., Marel, Miami International Transit, and Northwest Farm Credit Services.
