A year after launching BigFish brand Sea Trout Fillets, the product has netted a “Great Taste” award for Grimsby, England-based JCS Fish Limited.
Organized annually by the Guild of Fine Food, this year’s competition attracted 12,366 entries. Products were tested and approved for flavor, presentation and overall quality by a team of qualified judges and food writers.
BigFish Sea Trout Fillets are sourced from a strain of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) farm-raised slowly at sea. Promoted as “an excellent alternative to farmed Atlantic salmon,” two individually wrapped frozen fillets come per 250-gram pack, which currently sells for £5.39. Positioned as a highly convenient option for time-pressed consumers looking for healthy meal solutions, the product may be microwaved in four minutes’ time, or baked or grilled straight from the freezer.
“It is fantastic to have our faith in Sea Trout reinforced by this award,” said JCS Fish Director Louise Coulbeck. “The fish is still relatively unknown in the UK market. It has its own flavor and character, and we felt it deserved to be made more widely available. Like salmon, it is rich in Omega3 and it complements our range perfectly.”
