Grimsby, England salmon specialist JCS Fish has enhanced its British Retail Consortium (BRC) certification to the AA Grade standard – doubling up on its A Grade status obtained in 2016.
BRC Global Standards is an independently audited safety and quality certification program that major supermarket chains require their suppliers to participate in. An estimated 22,000 certificated food suppliers in 123 countries now use the international standard.
“We are all delighted to have passed the even more rigorous AA standard, which is testament to the continued dedication of our hard-working team in Grimsby,” said Director Louise Coulbeck. “As our business grows, BRC AA Grade is vital for underlining our reliability to potential customers and demonstrates that JCS Fish is achieving the very highest standards of safety, quality and legal compliance.”
The family-owned company, established in 2000 by Andrew and Louise Coulbeck, supplies both frozen and fresh salmon and trout to independent stores across Britain, as well as directly to consumers through the Ocado online supermarket platform. In addition to whole fish, marinated portions and fillets, it offers burgers and other value-added BigFish brand and private label products. Raw material is procured exclusively from accredited fish farms in Scotland, Norway and the Faroe Islands. Sales last year amounted to approximately £7 million.
