Buffalo, New York-based Rosina Food Products has introduced a line of chef-inspired Oven Fired Artisan Meatballs in colorful packaging designed to stand out in retail frozen food display cases. Pineapple Chorizo, Smoky Maple Bacon and Tuscan-Style Veal in two ounce and half ounce sizes are offered, as detailed below:
- Pineapple Chorizo. Made with ground pork, serrano chili peppers and sweet pineapple, these meatballs are advertised as “perfect for a quick breakfast taco, crumbled into a queso dip, or grilled with a sweet chili sauce.”
- Smoky Maple. This version features pork and applewood smoked bacon, finished with maple to create a sweet and savory flavor profile. They may be served as a side dish, as a breakfast item, paired with a honey mustard sauce on a slider, or as a barbecue pizza component.
- Tuscan-Style Veal. Crafted with authentic Italian ingredients including veal, Parmesan and Romano cheese, basil and oregano spices, these meatballs “make a great complement to your favorite pasta dish, used in a classic meatball sub, or added to a Mediterranean gyro.”
The new flavors were created after taking into account extensive market research utilizing focus groups, and are in line with the trend towards premiumization. The meatballs may be served at any day or night meal occasion, and can be prepared quickly to eat.
“While meatballs are traditionally thought of for authentic Italian meals or as appetizers. While we currently offer a full line of flavors that meet these needs, this new line opens the door to endless possibilities for non-traditional uses,” said Chris Tirone, director of marketing. “We are encouraging consumers to be adventurous and innovative by adding them to scrambled eggs or tossing them in your favorite Bolognese sauce. Our objective is to bring on trend, tasty, and nutritious solutions that can be prepared easily in minutes to a broad range of consumers.”
In addition to meatballs, family-owned Rosina Food Products manufactures and markets frozen pasta, eggplant dishes, entrees and other products to retail customers ranging from supermarket and club store operators to mass merchandisers. The company has been in business for more than 55 years.
