Summer arrived in the Northern Hemisphere on June 21. It also marked National Smoothie Day in the United States and International Day of Yoga.
Some folks dining at the Taco Bell Mexican fast food chain in the USA rang in the longest day of the year by toasting the newly launched Watermelon Freeze. The 16-ounce “beat the heat” frozen drink sells for $2.39, complete with candy shaped to resemble melon seeds. There’s absolutely no need to spit out these tasty faux seeds.
“If there’s any way for you to enjoy the watermelon flavor, you know it’s gotta be cold,” according to a press release from the Irvine, California-headquartered unit of Yum! Brands.
Available for a limited time only, the slushy beverage joins Skittles Strawberry Freeze and Mountain Dew Baja Blast on the menu.
Encouraging customers to bring convenient Watermelon Freezes to backyard cookout bashes, Taco Bell’s website proclaims: “Trust us, your friends will thank you and it will be the new way you enjoy watermelon flavor when you’re grilling it up.”
Meanwhile, elsewhere on the American foodservice front, Dunkin Donuts has debuted Frozen Lemonade, while Edible Arrangements customers refreshed themselves with 99-cent fruit smoothies to mark the Summer solstice.
