The Iceland frozen food retail store operator in the United Kingdom has come to the rescue of eggheads in the making at universities who never learned the basic home kitchen skill of beating egg whites and yolks and stirring in a little milk to whip up scrambled eggs.
Ready Scrambled Eggs were recently rolled out by the chain, which is now selling a 250-gram microwaveable pouch containing the “no mess, no fuss” product for £1.50. Ninety seconds of zapping yield two servings.
Iceland took to the Twittersphere to announce that its latest offering is “perfect for students who secretly have no idea show to scramble an egg,” as well as for office workers with tiny, underequipped kitchens.
“Convenience and quality is fundamental to all of Iceland’s dishes, even simple ones likes scrambled egg. It’s really easy for our customers to cook at work with limited resources on offer, or those needing a speedy breakfast at home,” said Neil Nugent, the Deeside, Wales-headquartered company’s head chef. “Our ready-made scrambled eggs are made using British free range eggs with a little seasoning. For the perfect breakfast, serve on seeded bread with smoked salmon.”
Iceland developed the product after being egged on by survey results suggesting that one-third of Brits don’t know how to properly scramble eggs. What is perhaps even more surprising is that 13% of students polled don’t know how to boil an egg.
God save the Queen!
