Unilever plans to cease production on August 30 its ice cream factory in Henderson, Nevada, USA, and close the facility for good before the end of the year. The move will eliminate approximately 300 jobs, though displaced workers are being invited to apply for positions at company plants in other states.
The Nevada factory packs a range of ice cream and frozen novelty brands including Ben & Jerry’s, Breyers, Klondike, Good Humor, Popsicle and Magnum.
“The closure of our Henderson facility is in the best long-term interest of our business,” stated Catherine Reynolds, spokeswoman of the Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey-headquartered company. She added that the plant’s production will be transferred to factories in Missouri, Tennessee and Vermont.
Meanwhile, the City of Henderson is working with the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation to provide soon to be unemployed workers with job search assistance, counseling and new job skill training.
