YO!, the sushi and Japanese food brand, has hooked a deal to supply Co-op as the British retailer inaugurates its latest food outlet in London’s Moorgate district.

The Co-op’s Moorgate convenience store caters to the growing trend for consumers shopping for food “on the go” and includes a range of more than ten YO! products including vegan sushi, chicken katsu bites, crispy salmon rolls and salmon deluxe sushi packs.

Opening close to London’s Moorgate and Bank Underground stations, the store is focused on offering ease, speed, quality and convenience for commuting consumers in the city in search of breakfast, lunch or dinner on the go. It also features a free water refill station, an i-squeeze orange juice machine and, the retailer’s exclusive new vegan range, GRO.

“The aim is to further elevate our sushi proposition for customers in search of more authentic products, bridging the gap between our core sushi offer and sushi counters in the market. We are delighted to partner with YO! as we launch of our latest store and test new concepts designed to attract and appeal to existing and, new Co-op customers,” said Emily Young, Co-op’s Food to Go Concessions buyer.

For those who forget their reusable shopping bags, compostable carriers are also available. The not-for-profit bags are offered at 5p – the same price as the single use plastic bags that they replace. They have a secondary use as a food waste caddy liner in the home, and can be turned into peat free compost.

Moorgate is the Co-op’s third “on the go” format store, following launches in Manchester’s Piccadilly Railway Station approach and, London’s America Square.

Co-op members receive a 5% reward on purchases of own-brand products and services, with the retailer donating a further 1% to community causes. In addition, students holding the TOTUM card (the new name for NUS extra) can pocket a 10% discount off groceries.

Co-op is owned by around 4.6 million active members. It was the “Convenience Retailer of the Year” and “Food-to-go Retailer of the Year” titles at the latest Retail Industry Awards in the United Kingdom.
