Rotterdam-headquartered Eurofrigo BV has begun construction of another coldstore on the Maasvlakte western extension of the Europoort, a major gateway to Europe situated on land reclaimed from the North Sea at southside of the mouth of the Rivers Rhine and Meuse. Completion of the project is expected in mid-2021.
In addition to an increase in storage capacity, the facility will support expansion of the company’s BIP/Checkpoint services. Located off Eurofrigo’s Maasvlakte facility on Karimatastraat, it will be the company’s sixth in the Netherlands.
According to EU guidelines, all imports of fish, meat, vegetables, fruit, and plant-based products (containers with plant or animal cargo, as well as various HRL food products) must be approved at the outer borders of Europe by various inspection services. Eurofrigo currently performs more than 30,000 such inspections per annum.
Expertise and Adaptability
“We have chosen to expand our capacity, in terms of checkpoints and storage, because we want to be more customer-oriented and offer more flexibility in inspections,” said Eurofrigo CEO Jeroen Tempels. “In recent years we have seen that customer demand is increasingly focused on value added solutions (VAS), which we offer as a strong supply chain partner for the longer term.”
“In addition to VAS, inspection and storage, together with sister company Thermotraffic, we offer a complete and independent logistics solution, from services such as customs clearance, transport and export on the one hand, to inspection, container unloading and loading, storage, order picking, repacking, weighing and quality control on the other,” said Tempels.
Eurofrigo operates as an independent unit of the Tokyo, Japan-headquartered Nichirei Logistics Group, which runs a network of more than 150 refrigerated warehouses and distribution facilities in Asia and Europe. Its international scope and expertise reaches far and wide. In addition to complete cold storage services which include the facilitation of veterinary inspections of imported foodstuffs, inland and outbound temperature-controlled forwarding is provided by its Thermotraffic transport sister companies.
is a leading company with a global network and is part of Nichirei Cooperation Tokyo, a leading player in logistics worldwide. Since its founding in 1978, the company has specialized in warehousing, forwarding, customs clearance and the development of innovative supply chain solutions.
In addition to the new location on the Maasvlakte, Eurofrigo has two coldstores in Rotterdam (Eemhaven and Maasvlakte) as well as facilities in Limburg, Venlo and Roermond
