Dole Packaged Foods will be opening a frozen fruit production plant in McDonough, Georgia at the end of January 2021. This will be the company’s third such facility in the United States, complimenting existing operations in Atwater, California, and Decatur, Michigan.
The fully automated factory occupies approximately 63,000 square feet of space and features four manufacturing lines which when running at full tilt will be able to pack 60 million pounds of fruit annually. The plant will supply frozen fruit to Dole’s retail, foodservice and private label customers on the East Coast of the United States.
Production will begin in a phased manner and is expected to be totally geared up by September. When running at full speed over three shifts the facility will likely employ over 100 workers.
Dole has partnered with United States Cold Storage to handle warehousing and distribution in an adjacent building equipped with a state-of-art automated storage/retrieval system.
“We are excited to have this facility open later this month,” said Sunil Phabiani, vice president of manufacturing at Dole Packaged Foods. “We have strong commitment to bringing our healthy products to as many people as possible, and this operation will help us achieve this goal.”
