Raised & Rooted Brand Brings Plant-Based Options to Grills this Summer

Raised & Rooted, the Tyson Foods brand of refrigerated and frozen plant protein products, is expanding its offerings with three new retail SKUs. The plant-based burger patties, Bratwurst and Italian sausages, and ground are being distributed to grocery stores across the United States.

“Our products are plants made meatier, and deliver the same delicious flavors in a better-for-you alternative. We are excited to provide people with satisfying alternative protein options perfect for any occasion,” said David Ervin, Chicago-based vice president of marketing for the Sprindale, Arkansas-headquartered Tyson unit.

While there are more plant-based options available for consumers today, relatively few are made especially for grilling. Yet in a recent survey, nearly half of Americans noted a desire for more satisfying, plant-based options for the BBQ grilling.

Raised & Rooted’s current rollout is delivering on those desires with the introduction of soy-free grill- and skillet-ready faux meat options made from pea protein. The products feature seasoning and texture formulated to deliver flavor and mouthfeel experiences that will appeal to meat and plant eaters alike.

With 17 to 21 grams of protein per serving, the patties and sausages provide a good source of protein with 75 percent less saturated fat than real meat options.

Plant-based protein sales in the United States reportedly increased 148% last year, with at-home cooking increasing exponentially during the coronavirus pandemic (SARS-CoV-2) and consumers seeking a variety of new options for their weekday meal inspiration.

Introduced in 2019, the Raised & Rooted brand portfolio is expanding across both frozen and refrigerated fronts, with additional new product innovations set to be unveiled later this summer. Now available in more than 10,000 retail stores and online, the product portfolio includes plant-based Nuggets and Tenders in the USA, and Nuggets, Fries, Popcorn and Tortilla Nachos in Europe.
