Hemp Burgers, Sausage & More on Planet Based Foods’ Front Burner

Planet Based Foods, which has positioned itself as the “first and only company to produce nutritious plant-based meat with sustainable hemp as its number-one ingredient,” has launched a range of frozen fare that can be conveniently prepared at home. The Original Hemp Burger, Green Chili Southwest Burger, Breakfast Sausage, Italian Crumble and Original Crumble retail SKU’s will debut at the Winter Fancy Food Show, February 6-8, in Las Vegas.

Its innovative manufacturing process uses hemp seed along with pea protein and brown rice to maximize nutritional value and fiber with zero waste. The result is tasty faux meat offerings featuring protein, fiber, Omega 3-6-9 fats with no soy, gluten or GMO ingredients. 

The Original Hemp Burger was initially launched last year in the foodservice sector at Stout Burgers & Beers locations across Southern California. Based on feedback from diners, the company is now making the meat alternative burgers more widely available to consumers through its new frozen retail assortment.

Davis added: “Consumers can and should have it all from plant-based meat – exceptional taste, real nutrition, and clean, recognizable ingredients with no GMOs, soy or gluten. We’re not looking backward to recreate animal beef or pork using plants, we’re making sustainable meat for the future that meets a higher standard for nutrition today.”

Below are brief descriptions of the new products, all of which most a blend of hemp seed, pea protein and brown rice, and

are offered at a suggested retail price of $7.99, that will be displayed and available to sample at Booth #3336 during the Winter Fancy Food Show:

• Original Hemp Burger – lightly seasoned with a mix of garlic, onion and smoked paprika. Two 4 oz. patties come per pack.

• The Green Chili Southwest Hemp Burger – natural seasoning and zesty slices of green pepper add Southwestern flavor to the classic blend. Distribution is in packs of two 4 oz. patties

• Breakfast Sausage Hemp Patties – seasoned with smoked paprika and black pepper, this breakfast sausage is hearty without the grease of traditional pork. Four patties come per package.

• The Italian Hemp Crumble – spiced with fennel and herbs, the product is presented as offering “the ideal taste and texture for topping pizza or folding into pasta sauces. Distribution is in 8 oz. pouches.

• The Original Crumble – lightly seasoned with a mix of garlic, onion and smoked paprika, this product adds plant-based nutrition and flavor to tacos or stir-fried dishes. Like the Italian Hemp Crumble, it is distribution in 8 oz. pouches.

Planet Based Foods was founded in 2019 by Mr. Davis, a former nutrition coach and cannabis marketer, along with food scientist and plant-based pioneer Robert Davis, and restaurant veteran Ted Cash.
