Americold, one of the world’s leading operators of temperature-controlled warehouses and providers of logistics services for the food industry, has inaugurated its newest facility in Dunkirk, New York. With 181,000 square feet of cold storage and operational space, the LEED-certified premises feature 25,000 pallet positions to support cold storage needs in the region and provides jobs for more than 60 full- and part-time employees.
“This is our first facility in western New York, and we’re excited to expand in this area at the request of our customers,” said CEO George Chappelle. “Our goal is to provide the best-in-class service to all of our customers, and this warehouse will help us to do that in New York.”
As part of the Atlanta, Georgia-headquartered company’s commitment to give back to the local communities it serves, Americold and Feed the Children distributes 25-pound boxes of food and 15-pound boxes of essentials items to more than 300 Dunkirk families, immediately following the grand opening ceremony on June 21.
Americold has partnered with Feed the Children for more than five years. During this time it has donated money and provided complimentary temperature-controlled transportation of frozen and chilled food products that have helped feed hundreds of thousands of families across the USA.
The company is the world’s largest publicly-traded real estate investment trust (REIT) focused on the ownership, operation, acquisitions and development of temperature-controlled warehouses. It operates 250 temperature-controlled warehouses, with approximately 1.5 billion cubic feet of storage in North and South America, Europe and the Asia-Pacific that connect food producers, processors, distributors, and retailers to consumers.
