The Swedish Intellectual Property Office (PRV) has notified Veg of Lund AB that it intends to approve patent application SE 2250375-9 which defines the company’s unique vegetable ice cream alternative. This means that the upcoming patent protection covers the Swedish market.
Veg of Lund’s patent portfolio has been strengthened by the PRV announcement, which refers to the company’s vegan ice cream based on a combination of potatoes, rapeseed oil and a vegetable protein in the form of a frozen emulsion. The ice cream has a very creamy texture and good taste.
“We are pleased that a patent is approved in Sweden. The fact it is based on such an every day crop as potatoes, shows the uniqueness and strength of the patent,” said Professor Eva Tornberg, founder and chairman of the board at Veg of Lund.
Veg of Lund has a corresponding active patent cooperation treaty (PTC) covering the same technology. The company has also received an approved patent in Sweden and Europe protecting its plant-based potato drink (DUG) as well as active patent applications covering the DUG in Australia, Canada, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, South Korea, Thailand the United Arab Emirates and the USA. It has also received an approved Swedish patent protecting the potato-based smoothie.
