With consumers of animal meat making up almost half of new plant-based protein buyers in the United States, Battle Creek, Michigan-headquartered Kellogg Company’s new MorningStar Farms Steakhouse Style Burger is a premium faux meat that can be heated in a skillet or oven, prepared on a grill, or popped in a home air fryer or microwave oven. The patties can be served with sautéed mushrooms and onions as a signature meal, or with other toppings of choice.
“We know shoppers have been seeking a premium plant-based burger option – something that’s already seasoned and truly tastes like meat, but with prep simple enough to fit their busy lifestyles,” said Joe Beauprez, the company’s senior director of frozen foods marketing. “The Steakhouse Style Burger is easy to prep, easy to cook, and easy to enjoy. We’re excited it’s hitting shelves just in time for the fall season. Whether it’s busy weeknights, tailgates, or a peaceful night at home, these burgers are perfect for it all.”
The product contains 42% less fat than a cooked ground beef patty, offers 21 grams of protein per serving and is a good source of fiber. In addition to being100% plant protein, it is PBFA certified and fully vegan, joining the brand’s wide roster of plant-based offerings which include a Spicy Black Bean Burger, Chik’n Nuggets and breakfast staples like Sausage Patties.
The MorningStar Farms Steakhouse Style Burger began rolling out in supermarkets and other grocery stores this month. It can now be found in the frozen food aisles of Walmart, Publix and Target outlets. The suggested retail price for a package of four quarter-pound vegan burgers is $9.19.
