Jumbo Cod Special is the latest retail product introduced under the Young’s Chip Shop frozen seafood brand in the United Kingdom. The two-packs offering is now available for £6.75 at Sainsbury’s, Asda and Morrisons stores.

The Atlantic cod fillets have been launched in response to the growing number of consumers looking for tasty, affordable alternatives to their local takeaway, at a time when the cost of an average fish and chip meal has risen to over £10.88.

At 240 grams per piece, the Jumbo Cod Special Fillets are over twice the size of Young’s bestselling Chip Shop Large Cod Fillets, and are coated in the brand’s signature crispy, bubbly batter.

The launch comes after a time of strong growth for the brand. It is now worth £49.8 million and has grown +17.3% in volume over the past year, outperforming the wider frozen seafood category as shoppers seek out its affordable, chip shop quality products to consume at home.

“Consumers told us they wanted a true jumbo-sized fish from their favorite Chip Shop brand so they could even better replicate the taste of the fish and chip takeaway at home, which is where the inspiration for our Jumbo Cod Special came from,” said Matthew Wilson, marketing controller. “With the same taste and texture that shoppers love in a larger format, the new product delivers on our promise to offer the ultimate taste of the chippy at home.”
