Hamburg-headquartered Edeka, Germany’s largest supermarket chain, has recalled a batch of frozen, ready to-bake pretzels because a customer found a piece of metal thread in one of them. Affected is the “Laugen Brezeln mit Brezelsalz zum Aufbacken,” sold under the “Gut&G¸nstig” store brand.
Only packages with a “use by” date of March 28, 2014, are affected, and customers who bought them can get the purchase price refunded just by bringing in the product. They need not have a sales slip.
Edeka, which consists of several cooperatives of independent supermarkets, operates aproximately 4,100 stores nationwide. Its market share is 26%.
