Bargain Frozen Food Pricing Warms Up Christmas Dinner

Frozen food will once again come to the rescue for folks preparing traditional home-style Christmas dinner in Britain, and a number of retailers are offering special prices to help make the season bright.

According to research, almost half of Brits in the 18- to 34-year-old demographic hosting Christmas dinner will be buying components for the meal from supermarket frozen food aisles. Millennials often rely on the convenience of frozens due to their busy lifestyles and, admittedly in many cases, on account of their limited cooking skills.

“Forty-five per cent (of all hosts) turn to the freezer for Christmas dinner, and 59 per cent of millennials believe they will opt for frozen when it comes to their turn to prepare a Christmas meal,” said Calum Kirk, head of the Manchester, England-headquartered Co-op retail chain’s frozen food department.

This menu, which would set the buyer back more than £20 when normally priced, is as follows: Bernard Matthews Turkey Breast Joint (1,100g); McCain Roast Potatoes (800g); Aunt Bessie’s Roast Parsnips (600g); Aunt Bessie’s Yorkshire Puddings (370g); Aunt Bessie’s Glazed Button Sprouts; Wall’s ChocoNut Vienetta ice cream dessert (1,000ml).

The offer is available at selected stores through January 3, while supplies last.

Meanwhile, research findings suggest that more than 60 percent of households will rely on store-bought frozen fare to share at the Christmas holiday table with family and friends by 2030.
