Bertolli, a brand of Omaha, Nebraska, USA-headquartered ConAgra Foods, on September 3 announced the arrival of its new Italian-Style Tortas in grocers’ freezers. Similar to a calzone or stromboli, the single-serve tortas feature rich cheeses, premium meats, and sauces surrounded by a golden flaky, made-from-scratch crust. Sold nationwide for $2.99 each, the 10-oz (283g) products are positioned for consumption as a hearty meal or, when combined with a salad, part of a meal to share.
“Consumers want restaurant-quality food at home without a lot of prep time, and this includes pizzas, calzones, and other popular Italian dishes,” said Jenn Freeman, vice president and general manager at ConAgra Foods. “Our Italian-Style Tortas give them just what they want – hot, melting cheeses paired with flavorful sauces wrapped in a flaky, made-from-scratch crust. The unique torta adds to our product variety and helps consumers expand their options for at-home dining.”
Staying true to Bertolli’s Italian roots, the Three Cheese Marinara Torta serves up authentic flavor featuring ingredients like creamy ricotta, parmesan, and mozzarella cheeses and a rich, basil-seasoned marinara sauce, slow-cooked from scratch using California tomatoes. For a heartier option, the Italian Sausage Torta adds spicy meat to the rich layers of cheese and sauce.
The Italian-Style Tortas join 21 new items launched last year, including Meals for One, Rustico Bakes for One and for Two, and Skillet Meals, as well as single-serve desserts imported from Italy.
