Birds Eye, a frozen food brand marketer of Feltham, England-headquartered Nomad Foods, is recalling Shortcrust Chicken Pies because a small number of its retail four-packs contain beef instead of poultry, in addition to mustard, which is not declared on the ingredients list and may pose a health risk to consumers allergic to the condiment.
The Birds Eye 4 Shortcrust Chicken Pies packs in question, produced on a single day in October of 2017, were mistakenly filled with Birds Eye Steak Pies. As a result, the company is recalling packages bearing a best before date of 04/2019 and the codes L7301MRN52, L7301ARN52 and L7301NRN52, which can be found on the coding field on the side of the box.
No additional Birds Eye products, including all other lot codes of 4 Shortcrust Chicken Pies, have been affected and thus may be consumed safely.
“We are reviewing our processes to ensure that this does not happen again, and we would like to sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused to our consumers,” said a Birds Eye spokesman.
Shoppers who have purchased the product are urged to return it immediately for a full refund.
