Rosemont, Illinois-based US Foods announced on September 30 that it is the first nationwide foodservice distributor in the United States to earn Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) Chain of Custody Standard certification. The MSC is recognized as the world’s leading certification program for sustainable, wild-caught seafood.
Chain of Custody certification assures that in every step of the procurement, value-adding and delivery chain – from the fisherman to processor, distributor and the end user – MSC-certified seafood is not mixed with or substituted for non-certified seafood. This ensures that seafood products carrying the blue MSC ecolabel can be traced back to a fishery that has been certified as sustainable and well managed against the global, science-based MSC Standard.
