Butt Foods has gained Vegan Society accreditation in the United Kingdom for its core range of naan and flatbreads. The news comes just ahead Veganuary 2020, when the spotlight falls on plant-based and vegan friendly food products.
The Nottingham, England-based specialist naan and flatbread baker, which supplies foodservice customers across Britain, has tweaked its recipes to remove milk powder and ensure that its Baked Earth brand is vegan friendly.
“Our core range still has the same great taste and performs in exactly the same way, but now it’s suitable for vegan diners too,” said Butt Foods Managing Director Dan Butt. “Our testing panels reported that the products tasted and looked the same as they did before we made the recipe tweaks, so we’re confident that our customers won’t see or taste any difference,”
The rise in demand for vegan and vegetarian products has been one of the key trends in the UK foodservice sector in recent times, with increasing numbers opting for a plant-based diet or reducing their meat intake by choosing to be “flexitarian.”
“Given the popularity of vegan foods now, it makes sense for foodservice operators to offer vegan items on their menus, and we’re delighted that our Baked Earth core range of naan and flatbreads for foodservice has been awarded the Vegan Society trademark,” said Butt.
The Baked Earth range produced by Butt Foods includes plain naans and garlic and coriander naans in various shapes and sizes, plus its rectangular folded flatbread and large folded naan flatbread.
Available through frozen food distributor Central Foods, the bread products are served in pubs, bars, restaurants, hotels, sandwich shops, casual dining outlets, universities and other foodservice venues.
