Ocean Spray Cranberries is acquiring Manseau, Quebéc, Canada-based Atoka Cranberries Inc. from Canneberges Bieler Inc. for an undisclosed price. In addition to purchasing the Atoka brand and processing plant, it reportedly intends to buy the Bieler Group’s freezer and fruit reception facilities in the coming year.
Bieler is Canada leading cranberry producer with 1,400 acres of land in production. It aims to continue farming operations as a member of the Ocean Spray cooperative of more than 700 growers in North America and Chile.
Atoka Cranberries primarily provides base products to industrial groups, which in turn use them as ingredients for their own retail and foodservice products. However, the company also packs its own Atoka brand products that range from fresh and dried berries to chocolate-coated cranberries sold in major grocery outlets across Québec.
