United Kingdom frozen food distributor Central Foods is ramping up promotion of its KaterKing Prime Pork Meatballs, now that the product has received Red Tractor accreditation. This certification provides consumers with assurance that ingredients originate from trustworthy and traceable sources, where high standards of welfare, safety and hygiene are in place.
Prime Pork Meatballs, part of the KaterKing range of value-added meat offerings, are made exclusively with British pork and have been a popular item offered by the Northamptonshire-based company since 2014. Last year almost two million of the ready-cooked, MSG- and hydrogenated fat-free meatballs were sold by Central Foods.
“Caterers and foodservice operators include them on their menus in a range of different dishes, from Italian-style meatballs in tomato sauce with pasta to spicy tapas dishes,” said Managing Director Gordon Lauder. “They are also used as pizza topping, filling for sub rolls or pita pockets, and as part of tapas sharing-style platters.”
Noting that Red Tractor is Britain’s biggest farm and food standards scheme, Lauder added: “It provides a vital signpost for consumers looking to eat quality food. The accreditation is something that restaurants, pubs, hotels, bars and other outlets can highlight on their menus. The Red Tractor logo also signifies support for British farmers.”
Central Foods, which is based at Collingtree, near Northampton, England, supplies more than 220 independent wholesalers as well as larger national and regional wholesalers. Also served are caterers across the foodservice industry, including staff canteens, schools, hospitals, coffee shops, football grounds and universities. More than 400 product lines are offered, ranging from meat, baked goods and canapés to buffet items, desserts and puddings.
