Among the “hottest” and at the same time “coolest” new rollouts in the frozen food aisles of supermarkets in the USA, at least as far as kids are concerned, are Disney Frozen Chicken Nuggets.
This is no Mickey Mouse product, but a 20-ounce (567-gram) offering complete with colorful images of Elsa the Snow Queen, Princess Anna, Kristoff the Ice Trader, Ofaf the Snowman and Sven the Reindeer on the front of the pack.
What’s inside, in keeping with the theme of the 3D computer-animated musical fantasy blockbuster film, are chicken nuggets shaped like snowflakes, castles and hearts. Produced by Newark, New Jersey-based Golden Platter Foods and distributed under its All Natural label, the breaded snack features fully-cooked breast meat. Certified gluten-free, the breading is made with a blend of rice and corn flour certified by GFCO.
Golden Platter is not the only frozen food company to seize on the popular Frozen theme to generate sales among young consumers. British frozen food retail specialist Iceland Foods Ltd. was among the first to do so when it tied into the big-screen adventure when it was released in the United Kingdom during December of 2013. Since then the Walt Disney Animation Studios motion picture, loosely based on “The Snow Queen,” a Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, has spun off a wide assortment of licensed merchandise ranging from Elsa Cakes and Frozen Olaf Waffle Makers to kids dinner plates, sparking paper dolls, wall clocks and Halloween costumes.
Golden Platter, a third-generation family-run business, makes gluten-free chicken tenders and patties as well as nuggets under private labels as well as proprietary brand names. Made from 100% natural ingredients, all products in its lines are allergen-free, produced without the use of artificial ingredients, hormones or preservatives, and minimally processed.
