Food Process Solutions Corp. (FPS) announced on February 12 that it has acquired majority ownership of Charlottetown Metal Products (CMP). Founded in 1957, CMP is a high quality, custom stainless steel equipment manufacturer focused on the hygienic design and construction of food processing equipment for the potato, vegetable, fruit, seafood, meat and poultry sectors.
FPS specializes in installing turnkey industrial food freezing and cooling equipment systems around the world. The Richmond, British Columbia, Canada-headquartered company has offices in the southeastern United States, Brazil, China, the Netherlands, and now Prince Edward Island in Atlantic Canada.
CMP has been designing and building custom food processing equipment for over 60 years, and serves a wide cross section of companies including McCain Foods, Lamb Weston, J.R. Simplot, Maple Leaf Foods, Bonduelle, Cavendish Farms, Kraft Heinz, Ocean Spray and Wyman’s of Maine. Employing a staff of 80 people including a team of systems designers, engineers, welders, fitters and fabricators, CMP ranks as one of PEI’s top employers.
“With a shared focus for hygienic design, CMP is a timely and strategic fit that will add to our capabilities in diversifying product line offerings,” said FPS President Jeffrey Chang. “The acquisition accelerates expansion in North America, as part of our global growth program.”
FPS has plans for a major addition to CMP’s existing 43,000-square-foot premises in Milton, PEI, as it intends to double capacity, staff and revenues within the next three years.
Trevor Spinney, current president of CMP, will continue to manage day-to-day operations of the company.
“We are excited to join FPS and look forward to serving our clients as a combined force,” said Spinney. “Food Process Solutions holds a powerful commitment to innovation and hygienic design which will enable us to increase value to our clients and grow our business as we collectively work to deliver best in class sanitary processing equipment to the industry. Our location offers FPS close proximity to clients along the eastern seaboard of Canada and the United States.”
