Bremerhaven, Germany-headquartered Frosta AG has extended its plant-based frozen food range with the introduction of Vegan Fish Fingers (Veggie Fish Stabchen) distributed in 350-gram retail packs. The long established producer and marketer of traditional fish fingers made from real fish components is aiming the rollout at the growing population of flexitarian consumers with the alt seafood launch.
The company, which in addition to fishery products sells a wide range of frozen retail and foodservice items ranging from vegetables, fruits and herbs to ready meals, entered the plant-based seafood sector in 2020 with the debut of “Fish from the field Field” faux seafood fare including crispy fillets and vegan fish cakes. Vegan Asian street food dishes are also on the menu.
The alt fish offerings took several years to develop, as they are made without thickening agents and utilize protein replacement ingredients procured from a single, reliable source. The vegetable recipe features salsify, beans, cauliflower and jackfruit.
