The Washington, DC-headquartered US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) on December 2 posted a public health alert for frozen ready-to-eat Mortadela Especial Bolognia products that may have been illegally imported from Ecuador, a country ineligible to export meat and poultry products to the United States.

The one-pound vacuum-sealed packages subject to the alert do not bear an establishment number or the USDA mark of inspection. They finely ground pork sausage  was shipped to retail and distributor locations in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of the product. Anyone concerned about an illness should contact a health care provider.

Consumers who have purchased Mortadela Especial Bolognia are urged not to consume the product, but to throw it away or return the package to the place of purchase.
