Health Risk Prompts Frozen Dog Food Recall in Six States

Northwest Naturals of Portland, Oregon, USA is recalling 5-lb. chub packs of frozen Chicken and Salmon Recipe dog food because of possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The bacteria can infect animals with potentially deadly listeriosis, and there is risk to humans handling tainted products – especially if handlers have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with contaminated raw meat.

Product subject to recall is part of one isolated batch of 94 cases shipped to distributors in California, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas and Washington, and sold through specialty pet retail stores. The chub packs in question carry a UPC code of 0 87316 38440 6 and a “best buy” date code of 15 082218.

No pet or human illnesses have been reported to date. The product passed lab testing on December 12, 2016, and was sold or before January 23, 2017. Anybody in possession of chub packs bearing the noted lot code should return them to the place of purchase to obtain a full refund.
