Hillsboro, Oregon, USA-headquartered Henningsen Cold Storage has received USDA Organic Certification for two more facilities after Oregon Tilth evaluated its public refrigerated warehouses (PRWs) in Twin Falls, Idaho, and Scranton, Pennsylvania. Both locations met the strict requirements set forth by USDA’s National Organic Program, which requires extensive effort and documentation to ensure organic products never commingle with nonorganic products.
The Twin Falls operation consists of two warehouses in a campus setting offering customers 12 million cubic feet of frozen storage. The refrigerated warehouse in Scranton hosts 3.1 million cubic feet of multi-temperature storage space.
Organic food consumption in the United States has risen significantly in the past 15 years, with sales increasing from $3.5 billion in 1996 to $31 billion in 2012. In addition, the amount of land in the USA dedicated to organic crops has doubled since 1997. Henningsen, anticipating its customers’ needs and the growing demand for organic products, responded by making its Twin Falls and Scranton warehouses USDA Organic certified.
