Iceland Seafood International (ISI) has merged Icelandic Ibérica and Iceland Seafood Spain into one company. The objective is to create a stronger organization in Southern Europe, a region that is a vitally important market for cod products from Iceland.
Hjörleifur Ásgeirsson, who established Icelandic Ibérica in 1996, has decided to retire from the position of managing director while continuing to offer support during the transition phase. Magnús B. Jónsson, currently the managing director of Iceland Seafood in Spain, will lead the newly combined organization.
Jónsson served as managing director of Iceland Seafood SL for 13 years, and previously worked for Icelandic Iberica for almost a decade.
He has transformed the business of Iceland Seafood Spain, which was founded in 1988, during his tenure.
The merged companies form the largest part of the ISI Group. In 2018, Icelandic Ibérica became part of ISI through the acquisition of Solo Seafood. With offices in Malaga, Barcelona and Vigo, in addition to a number of smaller sales units around Spain and Italy, both organizations have established brand and product recognition through the work of highly knowledgeable and experienced personnel, and have built a loyal customer base. They also run production sites in Malaga, Barcelona and Argentina, and have combined turnover of about €180 million.
Icelandic Ibérica ranks among the largest suppliers of light salted cod from Iceland in Southern Europe, which is the world’s largest market for frozen cod products sourced from Iceland.
ISI provides customers around the world a wide assortment of land-frozen and sea-frozen value added products and commodity items that run the gamut from cod, haddock and saithe fillets, loins and portions to redfish, salmon, monkfish, pelagic fish and cephalopods. Also offered are shrimp, snow crab, lobsters and mussels, as well as smoked fish, breaded and battered products, and ready meals.
