Indre Kvarøy, Norway-based Kvarøy Arctic, a family-owned sustainable salmon purveyor, has announced that beginning February 23 it will be the first and only seafood supplier available to retailers in the United States via Pod Foods. Headquartered in San Francisco, the rapidly-growing, tech-enabled full-service B2B grocery supply company distributes emerging, local and established brands across the USA.
Offerings from Kvarøy Arctic include frozen portions, salmon burgers and salmon hotdogs in four flavors: original, original & cheese, jalapeño & cheese, chili & cheddar cheese, and smoked salmon.
The Atlantic salmon is raised in waters of Norway’s Arctic Circle. Cherry Hills Market in New York, Cox Farms Market in Dallas and Austin, and Acorn Acres in Chicagoland are several of the stores committed to sourcing the line through the Pod Foods network.
“It’s our goal to provide retailers with the best-of-the-best in each category and build a great catalog of choice,” said Tom Jacobson a direct sales consultant at Pod Foods. “This is the first frozen seafood company we’re adding to the platform, so it’s important to us that our category launch partner is one that is cutting edge in sustainability and nutrition. We found each other at the right time and this is the perfect fit for our customers.”
Delicately textured and nutritionally dense, the salmon is approved by the American Heart Association’s Heart-Check Food Certification Program. Just one 3.5-ounce serving of Kvarøy Arctic salmon has over 2,000 milligrams of Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, exceeding the weekly recommended amount set by US Dietary Guidelines and the American Heart Association.
“As we were exploring new ways to reach people across the country, we were inspired by the story of the Pod Foods founders who built a distribution network based on their direct experiences from inside the industry,” said Jennifer Bushman, Kvarøy Arctic’s strategic development officer. “This launch will enable us to build deeper relationships with retail partners.”
Kvarøy Arctic’s third-generation Atlantic salmon farm is led by CEO Alf-Gøran Knutsen, Production Manager Gjermund Olsen and Operations Manager Håvard Olsen. The company is ushering in a new era of sustainability for salmon aquaculture as a net producer of fish protein with a commitment to traceability and transparency through IBM blockchain technology.
