Manitowoc, Wisconsin-headquartered Lakeside Foods, through its Peak Foods joint venture, recently acquired Blendtopia, a startup company based in Nashville, Tennessee, that supplies Superfood Smoothie Kit products to select retail outlets in North America as well as directly to consumers online. Eight different organic fruit and seed blends are distributed in 198-grams packs that contain two servings.
Blendtopia’s founder Tiffany Taylor has joined Peak Foods to coordinate sales, marketing and product development for the smoothie line. The Peak Foods team will assume manufacturing and operations responsibilities, including procurement, inventory management and logistics.
“I’ve built my company with my passion for food and clean eating at top of mind,” said Taylor. “I’m pleased that Peak Foods feels the same way about helping me expand the brand while allowing me to build relationships that matter and maintain the headspace needed to build the future of Blendtopia.”
For Lakeside, the investment represents its commitment to continuing to grow and diversify the product portfolio of Peak Foods. The partnership will help Blendtopia expand its retail footprint and aggressively grow sales to appeal to health-oriented smoothie and juice consumers.
Family-owned Lakeside Foods is a supplier of premium frozen and canned foods to the retail, foodservice and industrial sectors. Since its beginning in 1887 as a small canning plant specializing in peas, the company has expanded to 13 processing facilities producing wide assortment of products ranging from vegetables and desserts to appetizers and pet food that are sold in 14 countries. It manages vegetable growing and harvesting operations through a network of regional farmers, ensuring food quality from field to table.
Peak Foods is a joint venture between Interstate Food Processing Corporation and Lakeside Foods. Its Troy, Ohio-based manufacturing plant produces private label and branded whipped topping products for retail, foodservice and industrial clients. The company offers custom formulation and R&D capabilities, and manufactures vegan and Kosher-certified products.
