Greenville-headquartered US Waffle Company has unveiled a $21.1 million project to upgrade and relocate its frozen waffle and pancake factory about 17 miles west to Liberty, South Carolina. An estimated 114 new jobs will be created in the process, giving the facility a total workforce of up to 350 employees.
Capacity will be enhanced at the state-of-the-art plant, which will be situated in an existing 310,000-square-foot building at the intersection of Highway 123 and Highway 178 in Liberty and is expected to come online during the fourth quarter of 2019. The state’s Coordinating Council for Economic Development has approved job development credits related to this project. A $200,000 Set Aside grant was also awarded to Pickens County to assist in covering associated costs.
“South Carolina has always been known for great food, and our thriving food processing and distribution industries are an extension of that,” said Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt. “We celebrate US Waffle Company and their new Pickens County location, which further fuels the growth of the food distribution industry in the Palmetto State.”
Founded in 2013, privately owned US Waffle Company co-packs national brands as well as private label products for both the retail and foodservice sectors. Distribution is nationwide and beyond.
