Palermo Villa, Inc. on June 2 announced its latest frozen pizza innovation: Urban Pie Pizza Co. With a flaky, pastry-like crust, this premium, small-batch frozen pizza range is aimed at re-energizing the category for millennial generation consumers and young families.
Giacomo Fallucca, chief executive officer of the Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA-based company, credits the idea for the Urban Pie brand to travels with his family. The line features four distinct varieties named for the communities that inspired the tastes, as follows:
Lake View – A twist on the sausage and peppers toppings essential to Chicago, this 556-gram Urban Pie features sun-dried tomatoes, chicken sausage, fire-roasted yellow peppers and spinach over a bed of mozzarella, provolone and Gouda cheeses.
Mission District – Named after the melting pot of flavors and tastes of San Francisco, this pizza includes chicken sausage, uncured pepperoni, green peppers, onions and black olives.
Little Italy – Representing the famed New York City neighborhood that is considered by many to be the epicenter of Italian-American culture and cuisine, this pizza is a blend of Romano, provolone, mozzarella and parmesan cheeses on a pesto-based sauce, finished off with cherry tomatoes.
North End – Accentuating more of the East Coast style, this recipe’s flavor comes from a Boston neighborhood. This pizza, which offers a truffle Alfredo-based sauce, is topped with shiitake and crimini mushrooms, caramelized onion, rosemary and capers.
“We are thrilled to bring this type of innovation to the frozen pizza category,” said Fallucca. “It’s been a unique test to meld flavor trends with the American pizza palate. I think this innovation is a relevant representation of how much we continue to challenge ourselves.”
Founded in 1964, the family-owned company produces both private label and branded products. In addition to Urban Pie Pizza Co., its brands includes Palermo’s Pizza, P’MOS and Screamin’ Sicilian.
