Yearsley Logistics, a major third-party distributor of frozen foods in the United Kingdom, has begun the second phase of a three-part, £5 million expansion of its “superhub” warehouse freezer adjacent to the group’s headquarters in Heywood, England.
The project, which incorporates PowerStor technology from Power Automation Systems (PAS) integrated with mobile racking to boost energy efficiency, is adding an additional 50,000 square feet of space to provide another 12,000 pallet positions, increasing the facility’s total to 60,000 pallet spaces.
“The PAS system helps to speed up the customer ordering process and improves productivity, as well as having environmental benefits in relation to fewer door openings and less lighting,” said Harry Yearsley, chief executive officer of Yearsley Logistics.
Logistics Director Tim Moran added: “Our commitment to offering a day one for day two service is paying dividends with increased demand for our services, and hence there is increased demand for space in the coldstores. Retailers are re-organizing their supply chains and we are successfully providing the responsiveness needed to service these requirements. Our continued expansion is the catalyst of this success.”
Cory Hypes, Power Automation Systems’ executive vice president, commented: “PAS is committed to working closely with customers to craft solutions for their most challenging layout and storage needs. Our technology is flexible enough for any type of roof line, and scalable to assist any customer’s growth, as the Yearsley Logistics project demonstrates.”
PAS is regarded as an innovator of automated warehouse products and solutions. A global company with headquarters and manufacturing facilities in Lathrop, California, its systems maximize the effectiveness of coldstores by providing high density, maximized throughput and flexibility solutions.
Yearsley offers frozen food logistics services from 13 sites strategically situated throughout the United Kingdom. It provides customers with seven days a week service to major retailers, as well as a foodservice distribution network.
