Zoglo’s Incredible Food Corp. has recruited Canadian food industry expert David Jeffs to serve on its board of directors. Headquartered in Toronto, the publicly traded company produces plant-based meat substitute products ranging from ready meals, schnitzels, appetizers and side dishes to faux burgers, hot dogs, chicken cacciatore and many other items.
Jeffs logged a 28-year career with Loblaw Companies Limited, fulfilling numerous senior level positions including president of Westfair Foods and executive vice president of Loblaw’s national retail operations. He has spent his most recent years leading major efforts with the Perennial Group of Companies, the Performance Sports Group, US Foods, and Sobeys Inc.
Zoglo’s recently rolled out a dozen new plant-based food products from its Incredible product line at 130 Metro Inc. supermarket locations in Ontario. The SKUs include chicken tenders, shawarma, meatballs, and beef style strips made with non-GMO ingredients such as peas, fava beans and mung beans.
The company’s extensive product range is listed at over 700 retail stores across Canada including Loblaws, Walmart, Shoppers Drug Mart and Sobeys. Distribution further afield extends to markets in the United States and Europe.
Last month Zoglo’s announced that it has signed a non-binding letter of intent to acquire a 50.5% interest in Monday Swiss UK Ltd., a developer and manufacturer of innovative plant-based food alternatives. The company has invested over $3 million in R&D over the past five years, serving major customers such as Tesco, Holland & Barrett, Co-Op and the Ocado online grocery retailer with plant-based technology.
“The proposed acquisition of Monday Swiss represents the beginning of our commitment to sustainable global expansion and leading plant-based food innovation,” said Zoglo’s CEO Anthony Morello. “This acquisition creates a strong business in Europe and the UK.”
