Arlington, Virginia-headquartered Nestlé USA has initiated a voluntary recall of a limited quantity of Vital Pursuit frozen ready meals due to the potential presence of wood-like material in the product. The action affects Southwest Style Beef Taco Bowls that were produced on March 27 and distributed to a small number of retail stores in the United States between April 1-8. The recall does not involve any other Vital Pursuit products or batches.
While no illnesses or injuries have been reported, the company took prompt action out of an abundance of caution because the wood-like material could pose a potential choking hazard.
The ten-digit batch code (5086T908Q2) and best before dates can be identified on the side of the packaging.
“We are actively investigating the source of the wood-like material with our supplier, and are confident that this is an isolated issue and have taken action to address it,” according to a statement issued by Nestlé USA, which is working with the members if the Department of Agriculture (USDA) on the recall and cooperating with them fully.
The company added: “The quality, safety and integrity of our products remain our number one priority. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this action represents to both our consumers and retail customers.”
