Breakfast ranks as the most important meal of the day among Americans, according to 93% of respondents participating in a Food & Health Survey conducted by the International Food Information Council. And most parents fully appreciate the importance of this feeding occasion for children, who perform better in school and are healthier overall when they have a morning meal, as confirmed in the Share our Strength’s Teachers Report. But during hectic times, some parents are content enough if their kids’ socks match and they don’t miss the school bus.
Dinuba, California-based Ruiz Food Products, Inc., which produces El Monterey brand frozen Mexican food products in the USA, recently conducted a survey of moms and discovered that weekday morning stress more than doubled after they had children. When asked which stressful morning task they’d most like to give up, nearly half of respondents said they would forgo making breakfast.
This identifies a common tension – as important as breakfast may be, busy families have trouble finding time to properly fuel their days. Parents are looking for more wholesome, convenient breakfasts that their often-picky kids will enjoy. In fact, 50% of mothers said the main thing they look for when selecting breakfast food is whether it’s something their children will actually eat. And 70% said that, when it comes to breakfast, as long as the kids are full, they’re happy.
Eating breakfast is essential, but exactly what youngsters consume in the morning is equally important. Studies show that youngsters who eat a breakfast rich in protein and low in sugar have increased attention spans, concentration and memory – ultimately leading to higher grades. In addition to performance in school, hearty breakfasts also contribute to a boost in energy, a more positive attitude and weight control, according to data from the Food Research and Action Center.
Enter the breakfast burrito. Ruiz Foods offers five flavors of them in its El Monterey line, including Egg, Sausage & Cheese, Egg & Bacon, Egg, Sausage, Cheese & Potato, Egg, Cheese & Jalapeño and the new Meat Lovers, made with egg, sausage, bacon and cheese. Each is a solid source of protein, made with real ingredients including scrambled eggs, cheddar cheese, sausage and flour tortillas. And, the burritos can be ready to serve after just three and a half minutes of microwave oven preparation, making them an easy breakfast for kids to make on their own.
“As a mom myself, it’s important to me to be able to say our products are real food that tastes good,” said Kim Ruiz Beck, chairman of Ruiz Foods. “Breakfast is such an essential meal, particularly during the school year, and El Monterey Breakfast Burritos offer a convenient and hearty, protein-filled option.”
