The Food Standards Agency (FSA) in the United Kingdom and Food Standards Scotland (FSS) are warning consumers not to eat certain frozen fish and chicken items supplied by Blackpool, England-based MDA Products Ltd., as they are said to have been repackaged in unapproved premises and “are therefore potentially unsafe.”
Distributed at Home Bargains, Factory Foods, Fulton Foods, Frozen Value Ltd and Jack Fultons retail chain outlets, the products being recalled include:
- 4 Cod Fillets wrapped in crunchy golden breadcrumbs, 480g
- Lytham Fish Co. Basa Fillets, 800
- Lytham Fish Co. 100% White Fish Fillet Burgers, 4 pack, 460g
- Tasty Chicken Co. Chicken Fillets in Tomato and Herb Marinade 400
- Alaskan Pollock Fillets, wrapped in crunchy golden breadcrumbs, 500g

- 3 Chicken and Spinach Escalopes
- Breaded Hake Goujons, 500g
- Cod Bites, 500g
- Cod Fillets 500g
- Panga White Fish Fillets, 1kg
A Food Alert for Action has been issued for the products, which are the subjects of a number of labeling and traceability contraventions, to the heads of environmental health services and directors of Trading Standards throughout Britain. According the FSA:
“They may have ‘best before’ or ‘use by’ dates that have been extended beyond those set by the manufacturers and without authorization. Despite investigations by the enforcement authorities, it has not been possible to obtain the full distribution details or product traceability records for these products. They are not compliant with food law requirements and should be withdrawn from the market and recalled from consumers.”
