Fish International 2014 will kick off at 10 AM on Sunday, February 9, at Messe Bremen in Germany. Running through the 11th, the fair’s first day of events will include a special show within a show geared especially to the retail trade. This focus will continue for the duration of the exhibition.
There will be a good deal of discussion about fish farming on February 10 and 11, as Professors Michael Timmons and James Ebeling lead workshops on recirculating aquaculture systems in the Congress Center.
Another highlight on Monday will be a panel discussion among salmon producers and supply chain partners about the value of Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) certification in making responsibly farmed seafood a reality for consumers. Manfred Klinkhardt will moderate the session, stimulating an interesting interchange of ideas among the following panelists: Dr. Tjark Goerges of the REWE Group, Anne Hilde Midttveit of Lerøy Seafood Group, Line Rønning of Lerøy Midt, Chris Ninnes, ASC ceo, and Esther Luiten, ASC commercial manager.
The biggest exhibitor at the fair will be Transgourmet Seafood/Bremerhaven (at Stand 5 C 35). The company is presenting two fish species: sablefish, which is also known as “black cod” among restaurateurs, although it has nothing in common with cod. And white king salmon. Although the white king salmon feeds on crustaceans, it does not take on the carotene coloring. It’s a freak of nature, according to the company, as only one in a thousand salmon will be a white king.
