Ecopouch® Mushrooms from Venlo, Holland-headquartered Scelta Mushrooms BV received the International Product Award during the Alimentaria 2016 in Barcelona, Spain. The company’s frozen vegetable appetizers were also recognized as innovative in the marketplace.
Ecopouch is made in a unique way whereby mushrooms, after being packed, are boiled in their own juice. No chemical additives or salt are used. The result, says Scelta, “is a product that combines the best of fresh and preserved mushrooms: clean label, shelf stable in pouch packaging with long shelf life and fresh taste and texture. Furthermore, the juice makes a 100% natural base for soups, sauces, stocks.”
Jules Klerken accepted the top prize during the Innoval Awards ceremony. The Innoval is a major competition and showcase at the Alimentaria in which hundreds of innovations in nine categories are judged by a panel of jurists.
The Alimentaria, southern Europe’s largest trade fair, is held every two years. The 2016 edition featured more than 4,000 exhibitors from over 50 countries and attracted approximately 140,000 visitors from 157 nations.
