Seacore Seafood Inc. has been named a Gold Standard winner in Canada’s Best Managed Companies competition. The Vaughan-based importer, distributor and processor of frozen and fresh seafood products was one of about a dozen companies in Ontario to be upgraded to the Gold Standard in the program for excellence in business performance during 2014.
“As only the second seafood company ever to receive this distinction in Canada, it is a rare and prestigious achievement,” said Joe Nestico, president and co-founder of Seacore. “Through our relationships and partnerships around the globe with leading vendors and customers, we have been able to become a leader in an industry that is predominately dominated by companies along the shores of North America’s oceans. Being situated over 1,500 kilometers away from the nearest ocean is what truly makes our story special.”
In business since 1987, Seacore Seafood packs OceanPrime, Housecut Certified and Wyse Bay consumer brands at a 75,000 square foot state of the art facility north of Toronto. Its extensive range runs the gamut from shrimp and salmon to scallops, squid, barramundi, crab, lobster, clams, mussels, conch, cuttlefish and other species of fish. The product line was recently expanded with value-added items including OceanPrime Market Summer Sweet Salmon and Antipasto Seafood Salad.
Sponsored by Deloitte, CIBC, National Post, Queen’s School of Business and MacKay CEO Forums, Canada’s Best Managed Companies is a national awards program established in 1993 to salute organizations that have implemented world-class business practices and created value in innovative ways.
“We are extremely proud to have become a Gold Standard winner after winning this distinction as a Best Managed company for the fourth straight year,” said Nestico. “Hard work and dedication of the Seacore community has been recognized.”
